By Sandy Kuhlmann
The coffee from this pot is AMAZING, it tastes better than even professional brewers. However, it doesn't make that much coffee, and we drink a lot of it here, so feel like I am constantly making it to have enough for us. The other thing, is the whole system seems a bit flimsy, too many parts that fit together rather haphazardly.

When it comes to coffee, you shouldn't skimp on quality. This brewer makes great coffee at perfect temperature. Wasn't sure about the thermo, but must say it's a plus.

By Byron A. Atkins
My new Technivorm model has a metal thermos carafe, which I prefer it's very handsome and only cost $219.00 instead of the regular $299.00. It doesn't have the scale build-up indicator (that's why it is cheaper) but that is no big deal. My old Technivorm Moccamaster had a glass carafe and it lasted for 15 years. I probably replaced the glass carafe 4 or 5 times, at about $20.00 per carafe. The scale indicator never came on (my old unit) even though it had scale build-up. I cleaned it every two months and used bottled water but there was still a lot of white scale buildup. It only had 1 serious repair which was a fuse replacement, done locally by an electric shop repair place for $10.00. This happening 8 months after I bought it. In the end, (the last several months) the water valve quite functioning, I fixed it two times within the last 4 months by cleaning and soaking the valve in vinegar, but finally it it just wouldn't work. There was still a lot of scale buildup (even after rigorous cleanings) I could not get the valve out of the coffee maker even after unscrewing the unit. So I thought about a Brazen coffee maker but decided I really like Technivorm for it's sturdy reliability. Only issue is that the Technivorm thermal carafe does not pour very well, so sometimes I spill a little when I pour it into a small thermos, to take to work. Otherwise it's a great coffee maker. The coffee doesn't stay warm long because there is no burner on the bottom. This is good actually because the coffee can't get overheated and burnt. The thermal carafe doesn't function to keep it very warm either, but I have no huge issue with this.
