5I'm considering getting rid of my other travel tea mugs
By Jimi
I own three other Zojirushi products (airpot, Mr. Bento, and rice cooker), so I am familiar with the brand and know that it means quality. However, I still read every review I could find online and hesitated before spending this much on a travel tea mug. I finally treated myself using a Mother's Day gift certificate. Why did I wait so long? Now I wash it each night to be ready for the next day and am considering getting rid of my other travel tea mugs. This D-Mug has a good heft and feel in the hand. It measures 3" x 7 1/8" and fits nicely in my backpack side pocket (Camelbak brand) for travel to work and back. I make my tea at 5:30am and it's still hot when I open it at my desk at 7:30am. It does cool at a steady pace once you remove the lid, but until then the temperature loss is minimal; for example, I made tea around 11am and finished drinking it just before 3:30pm--sipping and replacing the lid at will--and it had cooled just to comfortably hot by the very end. Please note that this is not a travel mug in the traditional sense of the word. There is no opening to sip from this during transit. You must un-screw the lid to drink from the cup. On the flip side, this feature means that it will not spill, even when inverted.I do wish that the D-Mug was slightly taller to hold more tea. It does hold 11 3/4 ounces, but I use a Zarafina tea maker and it doesn't hold the full 2-cup brewing like some of my other mugs. I'm still adjusting the amount and drinking the excess at home. You should also be aware of another possible negative. Cleaning requires a slender brush. There is no way you could get your hand inside. That said, these are design features that I was aware of before ordering, so they do not warrant lowering my rating.I enjoyed using the "D-Mug Studio" to customize my mug. It was very easy to upload a picture and insert text. I could wish for more flexibility in layout options, but that's just my bias as someone who works with publication layout. It was hard to choose between the tea basket option (model SM-BTE35) and the comfort lure of the resin mouth ring (model SM-BA35). Having used the mug without the ring, I must say that I really don't miss it. In fact, I think that I prefer going without because stainless steel doesn't retain the lipstick stains that have marred a couple of my other travel tea mugs.As you can see, I'm once again a satisfied Zojirushi customer. The D-Mug isn't perfect, but it comes pretty close. I recommend reviewing the Zojirushi mug comparison pages before making your own selection. (Amazon removed my link; Google "zojirushi mug comparison" to view the PDF.)Update 8/6/10: Two days ago my mug fell from my backpack onto the pavement. Other than a couple of minor scuffs, I'm happy to report that it survived intact.Update 11/7/11: A year-and-a-half later and I'm still using this mug every week day. The inside is tea-stained, but that's just cosmetic. Washing the D-Mug is the only fiddly part. I have discovered that a small amount of water may seep into the area around the customized insert, unless I dry the exterior immediately after washing. Other than that, I have no complaints. I'm still happy with my Zojirushi D-Mug. And, yes, I did get rid of most of my other travel mugs. I kept just one--for sentimental reasons and as an alternative if I want to sip my tea on the way to work.Update 5/15/13: I continue to use my D-Mug daily. I brew in my Breville BTM800XL One-Touch Tea Maker each morning to fill my mug, in addition to a ceramic cup that I drink while getting ready for my day. Then at work I brew an additional 1-3 cups of tea directly in my D-Mug. I no longer use the "D-Mug Studio" program to design inserts; instead I tape small pictures of my son to the included insert to create a collage (the photo prints are higher quality than those from my printer). Despite a few additional scuffs and a constant level of tea stain on the interior, my mug continues to function like new. Note: You can and should occasionally remove the rubber seal in the lid for cleaning (a chopstick helps), and I also occasoinally use a straw or bottle brush to clean around the inside lip of the cup. My husband just added a Zojirushi SM-EAE30AX 10-Ounce Clear Stainless Mug, Blue to my Zojirushi collection for Mother's Day. I now use that smaller, more slender mug to to transport milk and other cold drinks.

5Love This Mug
By Jamie Nettles
Keeps tea hot for a long time. Comes with a built-in tea strainer that works just fine. There's even a place in the lid for putting the tea strainer while you drink your tea. You can customize the mug's appearance by putting your own art or pictures in the plastic sleeve that encloses it. You can use the software on the Zojirushi web site to upload photos and print out a custom sleeve. Or you can do like I did which was to make a montage of photos. This is a high-quality product and the custom art-work will survive unwet through light washings of the exterior of the mug. Heft and feel of the mug is good. Fits in standard cup holders in your car. To keep the contents warm there is no opening in the lid to drink through, but I generally don't use those little holes anyway. Great mug.

4Despite my wife's expectation of perpetual heat, we like it
By Robin Taylor
My wife thought this travel mug would keep her coffee\tea hot for 24 hours. Imagine her disappointment when an 82 C pour dropped to 72 C after 4 hours, and over night was slightly above room temperature. When I asked when she would ever need to have her beverage hot for more than 10 hours, she simply grimaced, knowing I would never understand.Fantastic product, despite what my wife thinks
