It costs a lot! However, this is the first cup of coffee that was hot, flavorful & not bitter that I have had in several years. I have had 3 coffee makers in the past 3 - 4 years. I name names because I don't want anyone to waste their hard earned money. Cuisinart- was a descent maker but it died on me. Saeco- didn't hold up. The finish was deteriorating & the surface of the hot plate flaked off. It made mediocre coffee from the beginning. Black & Decker- never made a good pot of coffee. It was weak & never really got above 173 degrees F. It was the loudest brewer I have ever heard. You really do get what you pay for; most of the time.I was so disappointed that these brewers let me down. I thought I would never find a descent coffee maker. I began reading & researching various coffee makers. Finally I found the Moccamaster. Everybody had the same opinion; it makes good coffee. Bingo! That was what I was after. Then I saw the price. WOW! Talk about sticker shock. It doesn't even have the bells & whistles that the other makers had that cost less than half the price. But, then again I never used that stuff anyway. The clocks were an annoyance & always needed to be reset. Auto-brew - put water & coffee in the night before & in the morning you have crappy coffee waiting for you.The Moccamaster just makes coffee. That's exactly what I wanted. Not only does it make coffee, it makes GOOD coffee.I've had this maker in-home for a week or two & each pot is the same. Good, hot coffee without the bitter after taste that most of us don't want.There are a few cons:40 oz pot (could have more capacity)uses more coffee grounds than other makerspricehot plate is not independent of the water heating element (both turn off at same time)Pros:Hand madequality constructionnot from China (no offense)QUIET (barely hear it)makes flavorful, hot coffeefast brewing (5 min)stays hot after brewingfantastic aroma while brewing2 hour auto offdual temp hot plateI can live with the cons as long as this thing does what it is supposed to do; Make good coffee.
